Basic sight words are common terms in reading. When applied to early reading instruction, it pertains to the set of words that keeps reappearing in almost any page of text. Some examples of sight words include the words “the, their, does and always.” In addition to being frequent, many of these words cannot be sounded out. We expect children to learn these words by sight or just by looking and recognizing them without any attempt to decode or sound. Here are some basic sight words flashcards.
