What are Short /a/ Vowel Sounds?

Short /a/ vowel sounds are in English words such as fat, cat, dad, tag, rag, fax, wax and dab. Here are other examples of CVC words with short /a/ vowel sounds arranged according to their similar word endings:

-at: rat, mat, hat, cat, bat
-am: ham, jam, dam, ram, cam
-ag: bag, nag, tag, rag, sag
-ad: dad, fad, pad, lad, mad
-ar: car, bar, jar, far, war
-ax: fax, wax, lax, tax and Max
